Hello Reader,

I am delighted to share my Jewel of South – Day 2 | The Spirit of South journey.

For Round 1 – South Mahotsav: Festival of South, I chose to celebrate something very close to my heart — the spirit of Onam.

I was born Malayali, raised in Nagpur, and found my home in Chennai. My journey has always been a beautiful blend of cultures, identities and experiences. That is why Onam feels deeply personal to me.

For my presentation, “Festival of South – Celebrating the Spirit of Onam,” I wanted to honour the people, culture, traditions and values of Kerala while celebrating what Onam represents — harvest, prosperity, abundance, gratitude and togetherness.

For me, Onam is more than a festival. It is a feeling.

It is the Pookalam created flower by flower, the Onam Sadya that brings everyone together around one banana leaf, the stories passed from generation to generation, and the simple yet powerful belief that there is always room for one more at the table.

That message resonates deeply with my own journey.

The little girl who once stood in a classroom and said “Madras” when asked where she came from — and felt that she didn't belong — now stands proudly as a Jewel of South finalist, celebrating the culture and heritage that shaped her.

This presentation is therefore not just about showcasing a festival.

It is my tribute to my roots.
My celebration of the South.
My expression of belonging.

I am grateful to NariFirst and the Jewel of South platform for creating a space where women can celebrate not only their achievements, but also their stories, cultures, identities, and journeys.
