Dear Reader,

“Class of 1996. A classroom full of North Indian students.

My teacher asked me,
​‘Where do you come from?’

I stood up and said,
​‘Madras.’

The whole class burst into laughter.

I didn’t understand why.

But I understood how it felt.

I felt like I didn’t belong.

That moment stayed with me.

Over the years, I carried many questions about identity—about my colour, my body, my accent, my roots, and whether I truly belonged.

And perhaps that is why standing here today as a Jewel of South Finalist feels so much bigger than a crown or a sash.

This is personal.

Today, I stand here to honour:

💗 My roots
💗 My story
💗 My voice

And I am deeply happy and grateful to represent Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

I am Ranjini Sanjay—an Engineer turned Educator, Business Coach and Author, and a strong advocate for women to find the courage to use their voice, the conviction to share their story, and the commitment to celebrate their lives and leave a legacy.

Perhaps the woman I am today is the answer to the girl who once wondered:

“Do I belong here?”

Today, I can finally say:

Yes. I belong. And I am proud of where I come from.

Thank you, NariFirst, for creating a platform that celebrates women not merely for how they look, but for who they are, what they stand for, and the stories they carry.

For me, this journey is not simply about a crown.

It is my journey back to myself.

And I am only getting started. 👑✨
